A device for stamping tablets of substances having a pasty consistency, e.g. soap, comprises two die halves (17), (18) reciprocated along a rectilinear path by crank arms, ejector pins (21), (22) in the die halves, a die box 26 provided with apertures (58), (59), (60), (61), intermittently rotatable to the supply, stamping and discharge positions, the die halves passing into the apertures at the stamping position and the scrap material falling into an interface in the die box from which it is removed. A number of modifications are described showing different forms of supply and discharge conveyers, i.e., relatively displaced sections of the die box (Fig. 4); die plates of different strokes (Fig. 5); vacuum and compressed air operated arms for suction removal and discharge; double apertured stations for forming two tablets simultaneously, (Fig. 7); scraping and cleaning members for the die apertures; die apertures of size greater than the formed tablets (Fig. 22); peripheral scrap outlets (Fig. 26); more than two pairs of die halves may be provided for. The finished tablet may be drawn through a trimming aperture (Fig. 18). The die box may be of metal or glass or cotton fibre reinforced plastics.
