In a gasket (1) constructed by fixing a packing (3) to one surface of a plate (2) in a predetermined planar disposition, in view of the fact that the packing (3) tends to peel off the plate (2) to which it is fixed, the following construction is employed. A gasket is constructed by fixing a packing (3) to one surface of a plate (2) in a predetermined planar disposition, the plate (2) being screwed to a mating assembly member at screw fixing spots (5) during assembling, the packing (3) having its lip compressed to be bent in one widthwise direction by the mating assembly member during assembling, and it has packing overhang portions (9) disposed in the vicinity of the screw fixing spots (5) or at or in the vicinity of inflections (8, 10) in the planar shape of the packing (3), for partly enlarging the area of contact of the packing (3) with respect to the plate (2).
