The use of one or more sulfates, carbonates, phosphates, polyols or alkali or alkaline earth metal inorganic salts excluding boron based salts to diminish the adhesion of products formed by precipitation from an alkaline silicate onto the surface of a material, with a 1-10 ratio by weight of these compounds to the anhydrous silicates.
