A metallic nickel powder, characterized in that it has been treated with an aqueous carbonic acid solution, has an average particle diameter of 1.0 mum or less and an oxygen content of 0.3 to 2.0 wt %, and bears an oxide coating film of a thickness of 2 to 10 nm over the whole surface thereof; and a method for producing the metallic nickel powder which comprises treating a nickel powder with an aqueous carbonic acid solution and subjecting the resultant product to a heat treatment under an oxidizing atmosphere. The metallic nickel powder exhibits excellent oxidation behavior and sintering behavior, and thus is capable of preventing the occurrence of delamination, in the production of a laminated ceramic catacitor.
