摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly change over a gas distribution passage between an each-cylinder independent condition and a two-cylinder connected condition while preventing the degradation of emission performance and the generation of torque shock during transition to change-over of the gas distribution passage. SOLUTION: An operation mode control means (an ECU 30) is provided for executing the control of a normal operation mode in the each-cylinder independent condition and the control of a special operation mode in the two-cylinder connected condition in which preceding cylinders 2A, 2D and following cylinders 2B, 2C are connected to each other. The gas distribution passage is changed over between the each-cylinder independent condition in the normal operation mode and the two-cylinder connected condition in the special operation mode in the state that a transient operation mode exists therebetween for combustion in the preceding cylinders 2A, 2D only with the air-fuel ratio in the preceding cylinders 2A, 2D as a theoretical air-fuel ratio or an approximately theoretical air-fuel ratio.
