PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substrate for liquid crystal alignment capable of manufacturing a liquid crystal display of a multi-domain system having excellent display characteristics at low costs. SOLUTION: The substrate for liquid crystal alignment used for a liquid crystal panel for display of the liquid crystal display of the multi-domain system is provided with at least a substrate 1, an electrode 7 formed on one surface of the substrate 1, an insulating layer 8 formed on the electrode 7 and an alignment layer 9 of a silane coupling agent formed on the insulating layer 8 and aligning directors of liquid crystal molecules along the normal direction of the substrate. Oblique alignment regulating regions aligning the directors of the liquid crystal molecules obliquely to the normal direction of the substrate are formed in individual regions corresponding to pixels in the alignment layer 9.
