PERSONAL IDENTIFICATION DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small personal identification device that uses human biological feature information as means for identifying individuals.

SOLUTION: Light emitted from an infrared light source 125 is applied to a finger F. The light transmitted is received by a photocell 115. The photocell 115 is the one with a single light-detecting surface, such as a photodiode. An actuator 135 is driven by a scanning circuit 140 to two-dimensionally scan the light applied from the light source to the finger F. A microcomputer 110 creates a two-dimensional distribution of strengths based on scan control by the actuator and on strength signals obtainable from the photocell, thereby obtaining biological feature information and identifying an individual.
