<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a visceral fat computing method and device using a biological impedance method simple with high accuracy. <P>SOLUTION: The visceral fat area of a measured person is computed using an arithmetic expression with sex and the ratio of electric impedance of abdominal length to abdominal breadth as variables. As the arithmetic expression, the visceral fat area (cm<SP>2</SP>) is made VFA and the abdominal aspect ratio is made R1, and an expression expressed by VFA=a1+b1+R1 (wherein a1, b1 are constants) is used. Or the visceral fat area is computed by an arithmetic expression with an abdominal circumferential diameter added to the variables. In this case, the abdominal circumferential diameter (cm) is made W and the abdominal aspect ratio is made R4, and the arithmetic expression is expressed by VFA=W×(a4+b4×R4)+c4 (wherein a4, b4, c4 are constants) or VFA=W<SP>2</SP>×(α4+β4×R4)+γ4 (wherein α4, β4, γ4 are constants). The computed visceral fat area is compared with a reference value, and the compared result is outputted.
