PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To charge battery of a power assisted bicycle even with a battery unit mounted on the bicycle, in which the battery unit is removed from the bicycle body and connected to a battery charger outside the bicycle for battery charging. SOLUTION: The power assisted bicycle is provided with a motor 22, the battery unit 5 housing a battery for supplying electricity to the motor 22 and having a running terminal and a charging terminal, and a battery unit retaining member 6 removably retaining the battery unit 5 in the vehicle body and having a running terminal connected to the running terminal of the battery unit 5. A branching connector 25 having a charging terminal connected to the charging terminal of the battery unit 5 is provided in the battery unit retaining member 6 at a place for placing the battery unit 5, and a charging port 24 is provided in the branching connector 25 through a connection cord 27.
