PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanism capable of carrying out location service in a packet radio network such as a GPRS. SOLUTION: A method for providing location service information related to a mobile station in a mobile communications system supporting the connections of a first type, for example circuit-switched, and a second type, for example packet-switched is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of: receiving a request from a requesting entity (20); retrieving the location service information related to the mobile station (22); and providing a response to the request (28). The method also comprises the steps of: determining a preferred connection type for the retrieving step on the basis of the predetermined criteria of the first set (21); and performing at least the first attempt on the retrieving step after the preferred type connection (22).
