PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately control generation of deposit in the vicinity of an injection hole of an injection nozzle for supplying fuel to catalyst. SOLUTION: In an addition valve 68 provided to an exhaust port 30 of a diesel engine 2, deposit is generated around an injection hole of an injection nozzle. In order to control the deposition, elapsed time from an end of fuel addition by the addition valve 68 is measured. When the elapsed time reaches a prescribed time, forced fuel addition from the injection nozzle is executed. By so doing, fuel addition from the injection nozzle is carried out at intervals corresponding to the prescribed time at least, which leads to control of generation of deposit. Since generation status of the deposition varies by temperature around the injection hole of the injection nozzle, however, the prescribed time and the fuel addition quantity in the forced fuel addition are made variable in accordance with a parameter exerting an influence upon the temperature around the injection hole.
