<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal transfer sheet which has a protective layer, is improved in cuttability of the layer, and achieves formation of a tough printed image. <P>SOLUTION: The thermal transfer sheet is formed of a substrate, and at least the protective layer and a colored ink layer laminated thereon, and characterized in that the protective layer contains therein styrene (meth)acrylic alkyl ester that is curable upon exposure to ionizing radiation. Further in the thermal transfer sheet, the Tg temperature of styrene (meth)acrylic alkyl ester before curing is 50°C or more, and the weight average molecular weight of the same is 20,000 or more. Furthermore the protective layer has no tack imparted thereto at room temperature.
