<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display which is bright and has high contrast and provides display of wide angle of view, in a transflective liquid crystal display for vertical alignment mode. <P>SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display, a liquid crystal layer 50 is held between a pair of substrates 10 and 25, a transmission display region T and a reflection display region R are provided in one dot region D1. The liquid crystal layer 50 is constituted of a liquid crystal whose initial alignment state presents vertical alignment and which has negative dielectric anisotropy; an insulating film 26 making the liquid crystal layer thickness in the reflection display region R smaller than the liquid crystal layer thickness in the transmission display region T is provided in the reflection display region R; a projecting part 28, projecting from the inner surface of the substrate 10 to the liquid crystal layer 50, is provided in the transmission display region T; the insulating film 26 formed in the reflection display region R is provided with a recessed part 29, formed by partially denting the surface of the insulating film 26; and the insulating film 26 and the projecting part 28 are constituted of the same member. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
