The invention relates to a security document, especially a bank note, comprising a security document substrate and at least two different marking characteristics which are used to examine the security document. According to the invention, a first marking characteristic is placed in the volume of the substrate of the security document. A second marking characteristic is formed by a luminescent material which is applied to the security document substrate in the form of a coding.
