The invention relates to a rotor spinning machine comprising a plurality of spinning stations, each of which contains an opening roller and a feed roller (27) for feeding a fibre band to the opening roller and equipped with control units (38) for a group of individual drives for the feed rollers. Each control unit (38) has a connection device (39), to which an additional control card (40) for producing effect yarn with predetermined decorative effects can be connected. The control card (40) comprises a processor and can be directly controlled by means of a data bus system (41). The inventive rotor spinning machine can be set to produce effect yarn in a rapid and cost-effective manner. The changeover between effect yarn and non-effect yarn can be carried out easily.
