Device and installation (40) for separating cuttings off a plant branch whic h is suspended from a carrier, having a processing station (2) and a unit whic h forms an image of the branch, and having carrier feed means for presenting a carrier (28) with a branch (24) suspended from it at a first, high level and lowering the position of the branch (24) to a second, lower finishing level in steps via intermediate phases, wherein a section of the branch (24) which is to be processed can be evaluated by the assessing unit successively in each intermediate phase, and the installation (40) comprises a device of this typ e having a first, low conveyor track (54) for branch carriers (28) and a highe r conveyor track (56), which is connected to the first conveyor track via a rising track (58), the vertical distance between the two conveyor tracks substantially corresponding to the distance between the high level and the l ow level at the processing station.
