PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method which can readily prepare a virtually speck- and coagulum-free dispersion having a high-solid content. SOLUTION: An aqueous polymer dispersion is derived from at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer and has a solid content of at least 60% by weight, based on the aqueous polymer dispersion. The polymer dispersion comprises at least one salt of a phosphorus-containing acid. The preparation takes place by free-radical emulsion polymerization of at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer in an aqueous phase in the presence of at least one emulsifier, at least one initiator and at least one salt of the phosphorus-containing acid. With the process, it is possible to prepare an aqueous polymer dispersion having a high solid content in combination with a low viscosity, and these polymer dispersions are suitable for formulating adhesives.
