PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive square electric resistance welded steel tube suitable for a vertical frame of a supporting frame for stretching color selection electrode bodies of a color picture tube. SOLUTION: A material of a steel plate to be formed into a stock tube has the composition consisting of, by mass, 0.01-0.25% C,≤1.0% Si, 0.05-2.5% Mn,≤0.1% P,≤0.02% S, and 0.01-1.0% Mo, and the balance substantially Fe, and one or two or more kinds of 0.01-0.5% V, 0.01-0.5% W, 0.01-0.5% Cr, 0.01-0.10% Ti, and 0.01-0.10% Nb as necessary. The steel plate is rolled in a cylindrical shape. Both ends in the width direction of the steel plate are electrically resistively welded, and the cylindrical electric resistance welded steel tube is rolled into a square section by the same tube-manufacturing line.
