PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tool having a variable workpiece support seat for use in a gear hobbing machine, wherein the single tool can mount various kinds of workpieces with different diameters. SOLUTION: The tool consists of: a circular lower tool 1 rotating around a vertical axis in a horizontal plane; pieces 2 for mounting a workpiece having a parallel surface to the upper surface of the lower tool and mounted eccentrically rotatably around an axial line parallel to the rotation axis of the lower tool 1 at a plurality of positions on a circumference of a region of the upper surface periphery of the lower tool 1; and an upper tool 8 for pressing the workpiece mounted on the piece 2 against the piece 2 and clamping. Each piece 2 is eccentrically rotated according to the size of the workpiece diameter to be expanded or reduced from the periphery of the lower tool 1 for mounting and supporting the workpiece.
