[Also in Divisions D1 and F2] In a timing device for controlling for example, a washing machine or a water sprinkling irrigation system, and comprising a rotary shaft 6 for operating a selector valve or switch in a housing 4, rotation of the shaft 6 is interrupted for a predetermined time interval at each of a number of operative positions of the selector valve or switch, by the engagement with one of a series of stops 46 of an arm 18 secured to the shaft 6. The motor 19 continues to run when the arm 18 is arrested, since it is coupled to the shaft 6 through a slipping clutch device. As soon as the arm 18 engages a stop 46 a switch 36 is closed by a cam 30 to energize a timing motor 28 which rotates a gear 21, having a hub 22 threaded on to a fixed bushing 7, so that the hub 22 moves axially and bears against the hub 34 of the cam 30 to move the shaft 6 axially. Thus after a predetermined period the arm 18 is disengaged from the first stop 46 and is moved to the next. The resumption of rotation of the shaft 6 causes the switch 36 to be opened by the cam 30 so that the motor 28 stops and the hub 22 is returned to its initial position by a spiral spring 23. The stops 46 are adjustable axially for varying the periods for which the shaft 6 is halted at the various operative positions of the valve or switch in the housing 4. |
