[Also in Division G3] In a tracing arrangement for a copy-milling apparatus, deflection errors of a tracing point 1 are compensated by superimposing signals, proportional to the deflection of a core rod 7, on the control signals from a tracer-point deflection sensing element 16, 19. The tracing point 1 is carried on a member 3 which is subject to angular deflection about a ball-joint 2. An annular bearing 6 in a free-from-play engagement with a flange 8, causes angular movement about a ball-joint 14 of a swashplate 9. The angular movements of the swashplate 9 relative to a plate 18 rotatable about a core rod 4, causes variation in the air-gaps of electromagnetic transducers, comprising elements 16, 19, which are connected in bridge arrangements, not shown, providing X and Y co-ordinate control signals for the copy-miller. Continued movement of the member 3 causes the annular bearing 6 to engage a flange 7 on the core rod 4, deflection of which causes vertical movement of shaft 23 in a fixed bearing 24. The shaft 23 carries an armature 27 movement of which from a null position causes the compensating signals to be developed by coils 28, 29 which are (a) superimposed on the control signals and (b) applied to a motor 30 to cause a compensating rotation of the plate 18. A mechanical lock 32, 33 is provided to prevent angular movement of the swashplate 9, the control for the copy-miller being derived from the axial movement of shaft 23 caused by movement of the core rod 4. In another embodiment the swash-plate is replaced by a cylindrical member rotatably mounted on the member 3, the control signals being developed by radial movement relative to the core rod 3, the motor 30 then driving the cylindrical member. |
