An automatic turret lathe comprises a bed 1 and a pair of parallel guide rods 5, laterally spaced apart from each other and secured to and extending longitudinally above the bed. A turret housing 6 carrying an indexable tool holder 17 is slidably mounted on the guide bars and is moved longitudinally by a roller 8 engaging a groove in a cam member 7 power driven by a control shaft 3. Automatic indexing and locking means is provided for the tool turret which are driven by a motor 10 (Fig. 3, not shown), which may be electric, pneumatic or hydraulic and which drives through gear means a cam 22 to actuate a lever 21 and locking pin 20. Associated with the looking means is a Maltese cross mechanism which indexes the tool holder 17. Control means is provided to ensure that the turret traverse, indexing and locking occur at the correct positions and times in the operation sequence. A motor brake is provided. |
