The traffic sign, for use in unlit streets, is fitted with LEDs (1) in a LED matrix on a carrier (2) behind a transparent panel (3) of glass or plastics. The diode carrier and the panel are contained within a hermetically sealed and corrosion-resistant frame structure (4) of metal or plastics. A plate (5) of milk glass or plastics is between the LED array and transparent panel, to develop scattered light. An insulation (6) is between the diode carrier and a base plate (8).
