<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable terminal for preventing the registered contents of a learning dictionary database from being viewed by a third person. <P>SOLUTION: A portable terminal 1 is provided with a dictionary DB141 in which character strings being the conversion candidates of input characters are registered and a learning DB142 in which the leaning data of the character string to be decided by character input are registered. A control part 11 displays the character strings registered in the dictionary DB141 or the learning dictionary DB142 as the conversion candidates based on the input characters, and decides the designated character string among the character strings being conversion candidates as the conversion character string, and when the learning data of the character string are not registered in the learning dictionary DB142, the control part 11 registers the learning data, and when the learning data of the decided character string have been already registered in the learning dictionary DB142, the control part 11 updates the contents of the learning data.
