PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a crushing method of a silicon block capable of crushing the silicon block to a desired size without mixing metallic impurities. SOLUTION: The crushing method is comprised of a process for heating a silicon block to be crushed, a process for forcibly cooling the heated silicon block, and a process for crushing the silicon block by abutting a crushing member at least whose surface does not include metallic components on the forcibly cooled silicon block. Or, the crushing method is comprised of a process for heating at least two silicon blocks to be crushed, a process for forcibly cooling the heated silicon blocks and a process for crushing the silicon blocks by striking the forcibly cooled silicon blocks to each other.
