PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing a coating material for a coated paper, more suitably preventing the generation of a scratch or streak, having a better coated surface, and also excellent in productivity/economical property. SOLUTION: This method for preparing the coating material for a coated paper of which coated layer consisting of a pigment and a binder as main components is applied by a blade coater, comprises a pigment-dispersing process for adding a dispersing agent to the pigment for dispersing the pigment particles and a coating material-mixing process of adding a dispersing agent of the same as or different from the above dispersing agent with a binder on mixing the pigment slurry dispersed with the pigment particles by the pigment-dispersing process, and also the adding amount ratio of the dispersing agents in the pigment-dispersing process and the coating material-mixing process is (75:25)-(90:10).
