The invention relates to the use of dimethylated beta-cyclodextrins, particularly DIMEB and RAMEB, as agents for promoting the penetration of vitamin A or its cosmetically or dermatologically acceptable esters into the epidermis, and their retention in the skin, for the preparation of a cosmetic or dermatological composition containing a combination of vitamin A or at least one of its cosmetically or dermatologically acceptable esters with said dimethylated beta-cyclodextrins. It further relates to novel cosmetic or dermatological compositions containing these combinations of dimethylated beta-cyclodextrins and vitamin A or vitamin A esters, particularly in the form of inclusion complexes. It further relates to uses of these compositions in the field of cosmetics or dermatology.
