This chair comprises a frame (14), a seat surface (2) supported by the frame (14), and a seat back (4). This seat can change from a seating position, in which the seat back (4) forms an angle with the seat surface (2), to a lying position, in which it has an essentially planar surface provided for accommodating the passenger when lying down. The frame (14) is a fixed frame. At most, two of the elements of the assembly, which is comprised of the seat surface (2), the seat back (4) and of a footrest (6), form the essentially planar surface of the seat when in a lying position. At least one couchette supplement is provided for interacting with the seat surface (2) and/or with the seat back (4) and/or with the footrest (6) for forming the essentially planar surface provided for accommodating the passenger when lying down.
