PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL element which has a sufficiently superior luminous efficiency and luminance and of which drive power voltage can be made sufficiently low, and in which occurrence of dark spot and luminescent spot at the time of light emission can be sufficiently suppressed. SOLUTION: The organic EL element 100 has a structure in which a luminous layer 10 is interposed by a first electrode 1 and a second electrode 2 arranged mutually facing each other. The luminous layer 10 contains a compound as expressed by a general formula (1). In the formula, at least one out of R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6, R7and R8is a substituent having a hetero-aromatic ring or a fused hetero-aromatic ring containing at least one nitrogen atom in the ring.
