<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new technique for synthesizing a cyclic nonprotein-constituting amino acid having a 4-aminopiperidine-4-carboxylic acid structure. <P>SOLUTION: The amino acid represented by formula (5)-1 (wherein P<SP>1</SP>is a protective group for the carboxylic acid; and P<SP>2</SP>is a protective group for the amino group) or its deprotection product is synthesized by passing through a step (I) of subjecting a malonic acid derivative or a glycine derivative to aldehyde formation, a step (II) of subjecting the dialdehyde compound formed in the step (I) and an amine to condensation cyclization, a step (III) of reducing the dihydropyridine compound formed in the step (II), a step (IV) of causing the Curtius rearrangement of the piperidine compound formed in the step (III) and the like.
