METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR CLEANING PCB-CONTAMINATED MATTER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a system for cleaning/detoxifying PCB-contaminated matter, in each of which a cleaning solvent is separated efficiently from trichlorobenzene (TCB) to reuse the separated cleaning solvent and TCB is separated almost completely from the recovered polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) at a step to clean/detoxify the PCB-contaminated matter.

SOLUTION: This method for cleaning the PCB-contaminated matter comprises a cleaning step to clean the PCB-contaminated matter containing TCB by using an organic cleaning solvent, a basic distillation step to separate TCB and PCB in waste cleaning liquid and a PCB concentrating step to concentrate the PCB in a bottom liquid and recover the concentrated PCB. A hydrocarbon solvent having the boiling point higher than that of TCB is used as the organic cleaning solvent. A second distillation step to separate the organic cleaning solvent from a liquid mixture of the organic cleaning solvent and TCB distilled from the first distillation column 1 of the basic distillation step by using a TCB removal column 2 is arranged after the basic distillation step, so that the PCB concentration of the bottom liquid of the first distillation column 1 is controlled to be minute.
