PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device in which luminance of a black frame part displayed due to difference in aspect ratios is reduced. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device is provided with a liquid crystal display panel equipped with a liquid crystal display part and a backlight disposed on the rear face of the liquid crystal display panel and equipped with a light source on at least a surface opposite to the liquid crystal display part, wherein a light source which is turned on and off independent of light sources other than itself is provided on the periphery of the surface opposite to the liquid crystal display part.
