METHOD OF COPING WITH FAILURE OF SENSOR FOR EGR/VGT ENGINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of generating an accurate substitute value when failure of a sensor related to an EGR/VGT device is diagnosed during operation.

SOLUTION: This is a method of controlling an internal combustion engine when a failure of a sensor or a mechanical failure outbreaks, in regard to an internal combustion engine having a variable geometric shape turbocharger (VGT) and an exhaust gas recirculating device (EGR). When a failure of the sensor related to the EGR/VGT device is diagnosed during operation, an accurate substitute value to be used for an engine logical control device is generated to maintain the controlled performance independently of a failure of the sensor or a mechanical failure related to the EGR/VGT device.
