PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester polymer having good hue and high transparency, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The modified polyester polymer is a polyester polymer made from a dicarboxylic acid or its ester-forming derivative and a dihydroxy compound or its derivative. This polymer is obtained by hydrogenating at any step in the production process a polyethylene terephthalate with an intrinsic viscosity of 0.5-0.9 dL/g which is obtained by using a polyester polymerizer comprising an esterification reactor consisting of a plurality of consecutive esterification vessels, a liquid phase polycondensation unit and as necessary, a solid phase polymerizer.
