PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a switch back device suppressing occurrence of scratch and stain on a print face and being miniaturized. SOLUTION: This switch back device 1 is provided on the halfway of a conveyance passage of a printed medium 3, and the direction of advance of the medium 3 from an upstream side conveyance passage 4 is reversed to convey it into a downstream side conveyance passage 5. The switch back device is provided with a driving roller 13 for conveying the medium 3, a driven roller 14 nipping and holding the medium 3 together with the driving roller 13, and a switching mechanism 16 for changing the direction of a pair of operation rollers 15 of the driving roller 13 and the driven roller 14. The medium 3 from the upstream side conveyance passage 4 is nipped and held by the pair of operation rollers 15, the direction of the pair of operation rollers 15 is changed by the switching mechanism 16 in such a condition, and the driving roller 13 is rotated in the reverse direction to convey the medium 3 into the downstream side conveyance passage 5. Consequently, it is possible to suppress occurrence of scratch and stain on the print face 3a of the medium 3 and reduce a space for pulling the medium 3 therein when switching back.
