PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seat sliding device for a vehicle structured so that a slide lock device is installed in the section between an upper rail and a lower rail, including a retainer which is split into a left and a right segment and can be installed efficiently. SOLUTION: The seat sliding device for the vehicle includes the retainer 3 having a support 3a to support its roller 4 rotatably, where the side wall parts 3b in slide contact with the side wall parts 2b and 2c of the upper rail 2 are bent approximately at a right angle so as to form a hook part 30, which is fitted to a slide surface part 2d to generate a provisionally installed condition, and the lower rail 1 is engaged with the upper rail 2.
