<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems that electric charges applied to a secondary transfer unit are accumulated during a transfer operation and are discharged, and that sensors provided near the secondary transfer unit, a transfer conveyance unit, and a fixing unit may be broken, in an image forming apparatus which transfers an image to a sheet of paper using an intermediate transfer body. <P>SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus, the secondary transfer unit has a standby position when transferring an image to a sheet of paper, which is different from that when not transferring the image to the sheet of paper. The image forming apparatus is provided with a ground means which abuts on the secondary transfer unit when the secondary transfer unit is at the standby position not transferring the image on the sheet of paper. Because the ground means is grounded, the electric charges accumulated in the secondary transfer unit are discharged when the image is not transferred to the sheet of paper. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
