PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for recording images in which a tentering mechanism composed of a complicated structure is not required, and images can be formed in a predetermined position of a recording material. SOLUTION: The apparatus for recording images comprises an optical scanner 19 which scans exposure of the laser beam L modulated based on image data in the direction orthogonal to the transfer direction of a recording material F, a position detection means 20 which detects end positions to transfer direction of the recording material F and end positions to scanning direction thereof, and a control part 40 which adjusts the recording position of the images by changing the irradiation starting position of the laser beam L which exposes the images to the recording material F based on the detection signal of the end positions from the position detection means 20.
