<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte for a lithium secondary battery capable of obtaining a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery with high discharge capacity and excellent charge/discharge cycle characteristics, and to provide the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery. <P>SOLUTION: The nonaqueous electrolyte contains a nonaqueous solvent and a lithium salt, and also contains 0.001-0.1 mol/l to an electrolyte solvent of at least one compound represented by general formula (1), (wherein, R<SP>1</SP>-R<SP>5</SP>may mutually be the same or different, and each represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, a cycloalkyl group, an alkoxy group, an alkynyl group, an alkynil group, an aralkyl group, an aryl group, or the like.
