PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus by which a large amount of image information about a precise biological tissue is obtained by transmitting and receiving ultrasonic waves and simultaneously obtaining intensity information and spectrum information on the ultrasonic waves. SOLUTION: The ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus is provided with: a chirp signal generation means 14; an ultrasonic transmission and reception means 10 for generating a detection signal by transmitting and receiving the ultrasonic waves based on the chirp signal generated by the chirp signal generation means; image data generation means 26 to 31 which generates first image data based on the intensity of the ultrasonic waves by performing autocorrelation operation to data obtained based on the detection signal and which generates second image data based on the spectrum of the ultrasonic waves by performing spectrum operation to data obtained based on the detection signal; and an image selection means 32 for selecting at least one of the first image data and the second image data.
