PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress deviation of a video image and to shorten image pickup time while obtaining an image pickup detection value that is equal to or more than the number of pixels an area sensor has in an image pickup system adopting the area sensor. SOLUTION: A light-transmitting parallel flat plate 12 with a front face 12a and a rear face 12b expanding parallel is arranged so as to traverse an optical path from an object 2 to the area sensor 15 and so as to tilt the front face 12a with respect to a face perpendicular to an optical axis KO of light made incident on the parallel flat plate 12 only by a tilt angleθ. The parallel flat plate 12 is turned with the optical axis KO as a turning center to pick up images by the area sensor 15 in at least two positions: a first turning position and a second turning position. According to this, deviation of a video image can be suppressed because the need of connecting picked-up video images of a plurality of areas can be eliminated and image pickup time can be shortened because the need of moving the area sensor 15 itself can be eliminated when an image pickup detection value that is equal to or more than the number (the number of pixels) of CCDs 15a is obtained.
