PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a crucible which enables easy determination of the boundary between molten and unmolten parts of a seed crystal in a seed crystal-containing part. SOLUTION: The crucible 1 for growing a single crystal has the seed crystal-containing part 1E which has a bottom, contains the seed crystal and extends vertically, a raw material-containing part 1D which contains a raw material of the seed crystal and is located above and communicated with the seed crystal-containing part 1E and temperature-detecting means 1CA and 1CB which detect the temperature inside the seed crystal-containing part 1E.
