PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a quinazolinone compound expressed by formula (2) (R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each a (substituted)alkyl, or the like; R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>are each hydrogen atom, or the like; and R<SP>5</SP>is a (substituted)aryl group) in high production efficiency without using an expensive reagent or a highly toxic reagent. SOLUTION: This method for the production of the quinazolinone compound expressed by formula (2) comprises the reaction of an amino compound expressed by formula (1) (R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>4</SP>and R<SP>5</SP>are same as those defined above; and R<SP>6</SP>is a lower alkyl) with a tertiary amine.
