PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a favorable intake system for an engine for conducting a first idle always at an adequate engine speed without being affected by operational environment and the time for starting. SOLUTION: The intake system 10 includes a main-valve 31 and a sub-valve 21 provided in series in the direction of intake. The main-valve 31 is opened/closed in interlocking with a throttle operation. The sub-valve 21 is opened/closed under valve-travel control of a control means. In conducting a fast idle, the main valve 31 in the state of not undergoing a throttle operation is opened in response to the valve-travel of the sub-valve 21 and under feedback-control so that the engine speed attains a specified number of revolutions (a target value).
