PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prolong the service lifetime of a display device for displaying a reproducing state of an information recording and reproducing device by simple setting operations executed beforehand and to reduce the power consumption. SOLUTION: The information recording and reproducing device is characterized by having a hard disk (3a) for always recording the recording information inputted from the outside, an HD drive unit (3), which reproduces at least either of the recording information and the already recorded information recorded in the hard disk (3a) while the recording information is recorded in the hard disk (3a), an input part (7) or a remote control part (5) used for starting the reproduction of the HD drive unit (3), the input part (7) or the remote control part (5) used for finishing the reproduction of the input part (7) or the remote control part (5), an FL display (14) for displaying the reproducing state of the HD drive unit (3), and a control means for improving the luminance of the FL display (14) during a period from the reproduction start by the input part (7) or the remote control part (5) to the reproduction finish by the input part (7) or the remote control part (5).
