The invention provides a composite comprising: a texturized fibrous material; and an elastomer, and a process for manufacturing a composite comprising (a) shearing cellulosic or lignocellulosic material to the extent that its internal fibers are substantially exposed to form texturized cellulosic or lignocellulosic material, and (b) combining the cellulosic or lignocellulosic material with an elastomer.
