System for utilizing an encryption or decryption agent so as to preclude access by the agent to the information being encrypted or decrypted. A blinding function is applied to plain text prior to forwarding it to the encryption agent for encryption. Alternatively a blinding function is applied to encrypted information prior to forwarding it to the decryption agent for decryption. Once the information has been returned, the information is unblinded, by inverting the blinding function leaving an encrypted or decrypted message respectively. The blinding function is mathematical function that can be reversed even after the en/decryption function has been applied. The encryption may be RSA based public private key encryption.
