The starter has a clutch-inner (10) with a portion that is utilized as an inner ring of a bearing. A ball-groove support balls is formed on a bearing portion. A rear portion of an output shaft (4) is inserted into the clutch-inner which is rotatably supported by the bearing held in a center case. The output shaft is driven by an electric motor and is shifted without moving a one-way clutch.
