A photographic silver halide emulsion has a binder comprising from 9 to 50% by weight of a gelatine that has been hydrolyzed by treatment with an enzyme and the enzyme action arrested before the addition of such treated gelatine to the emulsion. The gelatine may be acylated with an organic dicarboxylic acid anhydride e.g. phthalic anhydride before or after enzymatic hydrolysis. The enzyme used may be trypsin pancreatic or papain. |
