A weighing and counting machine for cash, which may be incorporated in an "intelligent" cash register, has an automatic recalibration facility. To compensate for alteration in, for example, environmental conditions such as changes in humidity, which can effect the weight of a banknote, the machine can recalibrate itself. This can take place periodically or in response to external factors. In recalibrating the machine will weigh one or more cash items to determine a specific weight for each cash item and replacing a stored standard weight value for that cash item with the specific weight for use as a new standard weight value. |
